Enhanced Chiral Recognition by Cyclodextrin Dimers

In this article we investigate the effect of multivalency in chiral recognition. To this end, we measured the host-guest interaction of a β-cyclodextrin dimer with divalent chiral guests. We report the synthesis of carbohydrate-based water soluble chiral guests functionalized with two borneol, menthol, or isopinocampheol units in either (+) or (-) configuration. We determined the interaction of...

Inclusion of C60 into an adjustable porphyrin dimer generated by dynamic disulfide chemistry.

A new, highly flexible porphyrin dimer was isolated in preparative scale from a dynamic disulfide library; this receptor adjusts to fit guests with a wide range of steric requirements and, whilst C60 proved to be an unsuitable template for this library, a new C60-porphyrin complex was isolated and characterised.

Selective binding of benzenediol derivatives by simultaneous non-covalent interactions in bis-Pt(II) aza-aromatic host-guest system.

We have designed and synthesized a new ligand, 6-(2-pyridinyl)-4-[3'-(3-pyridinyl)[1,1'-biphenyl]-3-yl]-2,2'-bipyridine (2). 2 reacted with Pt(cod)(MeCN)(2)(BF(4))(2) to quantitatively give the molecular dimer, 1.BF(4) (2(2).Pt(II)(2).4BF(4)(-)), by self-assembly. The (1)H NMR and UV-vis titration showed that the complexation affinity of 1.BF(4) toward benzenediol guests decreases in the order ...

Thermodynamical and geometrical characterization of molecular recognition by cage-type and peptide azapara-cyclophanes in aqueous media

A cage-type cyclophane which is constructed with two rigid macrocyclic skeletons, tetraaza[6.1.6.1 Iparacyclophane and tetraaza[3.3.3.3]paracyclophane, and four chiral bridging components strongly binds anionic and hydrophobic guests, such as 8-anilinonaphthalene-I-sulfonate and 6-p-toluidinonaphthalene-2sulfonate. Thermodynamic parameters were evaluated from temperaturedependent complexation c...

Stereospecific change in conformation upon complexation of an exoditopic tetraamide host with a bis(ammonium) guest: chiral recognition and strong CD signaling.

Upon complexation of a rectangular-shaped achiral macrocyclic host with chiral guests, twisting deformation occurs to induce exciton-type bisignated CD, whereas a chiral rectangular host undergoes a similar structural change only with the matching enantiomer of a chiral guest.
